Swinburne also leads Masterclasses in her subject, in 2005 she taught a class with the German artist, Ursula Huth, at the Ezra Glass Centre, in Japan. More recently she led a class at the Fire Station Artists' studios in Dublin, Ireland, assisted by the German artist Hartmann Greb.

Tutorial at the Rietveld Academie

Elizabeth Swinburne has been involved in teaching glass since 1985 when she returned to the UK after studying at the Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam. After a short spell as visiting lecturer at Leicestershire and Staffordshire Polytechnics she was appointed Head of Glass at Staffordshire Polytechnic (now University). She ran the glass department from 1986 until 1996. After a short, two year spell teaching at Wolverhampton University she was appointed to direct the M.A Glass course at the Royal College of Art, London . Her move to the Netherlands coincided with her appointment as Coordinator of the glass department at the Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam . A position she held for three years until the reorganisation of the School in 2003.
